#ClosertoRomania at the Donors’ Circle Romanian Diaspora Funding Network
On 17 June 2021, we organized together with 7 other active diaspora organizations the first edition of the Romanian Diaspora Funding Network (RDFN) Donors’ Circle. The event brought the Romanian diaspora community closer to Romania by supporting three impactful projects in the country.
Together we managed to raise donations of 16,000 euros and, in this way, support 3 projects proposed by 3 organizations that are constantly working for change in Romania:
De-a arhitectura – Urban Up Grows Up – Young Citizens for the Built Environment.
De-a Arhitectura wants to train 30 young people to understand how to plan the development of a locality and become more aware of what they can do to have an impact in improving the cities they live in.
Declic – Romanian private pension funds – Investments aligned with climate goals.
In the long term, fossil fuels will be phased out across the globe to meet increasingly ambitious climate targets. Fossil fuel investments are a significant part of pension funds. Declic will analyse and rank Romanian private pension funds based on their share of investments in the fossil fuel industry and call for immediate action to find alternative solutions.
Partner for You Association (APT) – Workshop with a twist.
APT will create a community space where 30 children from vulnerable families in two rural communities in Argeș County will spend their free time in an educational, fun and remedial way, learning to identify and solve community problems.
RDFN is a philanthropic network of 8 diaspora groups and organisations: Civic Diaspora Berlin, Barcelona Donors Circle Barcelona, Brussels Donors Circle Brussels, Helsinki Donors Circle Helsinki – Edustudio Helsinki, London Donors Circle London, GRASP Milan – Global Romanian Society of Young Professionals, RUF – Romanian United Fund and San Francisco Donors Circle. They aim to bring together and support Romanians in the diaspora to contribute, through philanthropy, to change for Romania, providing support and resources to civil society at home.
