The Climate Lottery
This fall we worked, in cooperation with a group of artists and sustainability experts, on the Climate Lottery – the first project in Romania that talks about climate change through short, informative (and fun) videos. In it, we explored various topics related to the climate crisis: from what Bucharest and Romania might look like in 50 years, to who are the big emitters of CO2, to what are the big categories of pollution and what solutions are available, or why recycling is not the only solution to overconsumption.
Although studies show that Romanians have heard about global warming and are aware of some of the proposed solutions, there is unfortunately not a complete picture in the mainstream of the problem, the negative consequences but also the essential solutions (individual and collective). The heat waves as well as this year’s floods have shown that we are already in the midst of a climate crisis, and that there is no time to lose. That’s why the project aims to disseminate quality information, summarized in an easy-to-understand way, thus contributing to a better informed and engaged society, able to face the challenges of global warming.
The Climate Lottery had two components: a series of 7 informational/educational videos and an art installation, under a physical slot machine/arcade game, which was exhibited in November at the Scena9 Residence in Bucharest.
The 7 short, informative (and funny) videos explored various topics related to the climate crisis: from what Bucharest and Romania might look like in 50 years, to who are the big emitters of CO2, why recycling is not the only solution to overconsumption, what are the big categories of pollution and what solutions are available, etc. They can be viewed on our social media channels:

The interactive slot machine-like installation explores the concept of the ‘climate lottery’, highlighting how today’s actions will have tangible consequences for life in the future. Based on the answers to questions about current lifestyles, the game generates possible future scenarios and gives a picture of the year 2070. At the end, players will have the opportunity to make policy decisions to avoid the worst-case climate scenarios. The installation was exhibited at the beginning of November 2024 at the Scena9 Residence in Bucharest and can be accessed for free on : https://loteriaclimatica.ro/joc.html
